How to project your voice

This is a really simple but effective exercise to give you more resonance and projection in your voice. If your voice doesn’t cut through or you find it difficult to project your voice, then this simple exercise will help!

Simply hold a pencil between your teeth and say a few lines of speech or a simple vocal exercise, such as a scale.

You should feel that your ‘mask’ (the area around the front of your face) is resonating and the tonal quality is higher and clearer.

By widening the area around the mask consequently opens the oral cavity (the acoustic space within the mouth), and lifts the back of the tongue slightly to create more resonance.
